Well… the weekend didn’t go quite as planned!
Lots of food was made:
- Gnocchi was made on Saturday and half the batch was frozen (am excited to see if that works ok!)
- Gorgeous soy fish was made on Sunday
- A chocolate cookie recipe was created and made! (Well more went to make, realised half the ingredients were missing, then created!)
- More gnocchi was made on Monday for my sister along with garlic bread
- French sticks were made (with the aid of the breadmaker! NB some work is required, the bread maker only made the dough!)
- A wholemeal loaf was made (or rather ingredients were put in the bread maker and the on button was pressed…)
- A delicious Tunisian Orange Cake was made – it tasted fabulous but looked somewhat suspect because I struggled to get it out the tin…
- A fish pie was enjoyed
Soy Sauce Fish
This is such a quick, easy and yummy meal to make.
1 fillet of white fish (monkfish or basa work well) per person
1 tablespoon of oil
1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce
- Cut the fish into pieces about 2” square (but it’s a rough science – just make sure they are all the same size).
- Heat the oil in a wok or frying pan.
- Add fish to the oil. Cook until done (about 5 mins).
- Add dark soy sauce and cook for another minute or so.
Serve with rice. We also included some pine nuts this time as a bit of an experiment – they added a great texture but their flavour may have been a bit strong. We’ll definitely be trying other nuts in the future though! You might also want to include a bit of garlic or some fish sauce.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Bake
1 packet of chocolate chips (or broken chunks of chocolate)
5 oz sugar (I think)
4 oz self raising flour
2 oz cocoa powder
2 4 tablespoons of vegetable oil
1 3 tablespoon of golden syrup
- Mix the sugar, flour and cocoa powder in a bowl.
- Add the oil and mix.
- Add the syrup and mix.
- Add the chocolate chips and mix.
- Add a tablespoon of water if needed to create a pliable texture.
- Drop the cookies onto a lined baking tray at regular intervals (once baked these will merge together but will leave joins making it easier to break up).
- Bake at 180C for about 10-15 minutes.
- Don’t be put off by the very fragile mixture – when the syrup cools it will harden and go gooey and lovely!
I was really looking forward to giving bagel making a shot but completely ran out of time!
In terms of all things crafty I was itching to make a dress but didn’t have any material so I dragged my other half to a shop and started trying to choose. The other half got bored, wanted coffee and decided to point out (correctly but that’s irrelevant) that I really shouldn’t be spending what little money I do have given that rent, council tax, other boring life related things are all about to be due… So I got sulky and left without any fabric and hence no dress was made.
Instead I …
… made a necklace
… made a ladybird ring
… started a scrapbook type thing
… covered a notebook with wallpaper (which looks pretty good if I do say so myself!)
… made some coasters using tiles and ceramic paint
… came up with a few themed gift projects and got started on one of them
… planted a few things in the garden (foxgloves, cowslips and something beginning with H which I can’t remember)
… planted some basil
Photos of these things were supposed to happen today but I ended up feeling really ill towards the end of yesterday and just couldn’t be bothered! Photos will appear when I’m back at home later today!
Oh yes – I can’t believe I haven’t mentioned the most exciting news yet – I won a giveaway from sneezerville!

Giveaway from sneezerville!
And lady luck was on my side this weekend because StuffedNonsense are giving away a little something to everyone who entered their giveaway! BTW definitely check out their blog if you live near Cheltenham because on the 29th May they are having a ‘Craft Night In’ which sounds great – I wish someone would organise something like that up here!
